Yawataya Isogoro Shichimi is one of Japan’s most iconic seven-spice blends, born in Nagano in 1736 near the famous Zenkoji Temple.
For almost 300 years, this shichimi has been loved not only as a spicy seasoning, but as a part of Japanese food culture. It is made with seven carefully balanced ingredients: chili pepper, sansho Japanese pepper, ginger, hemp seed, black sesame, dried orange peel, and perilla.
The taste is warm and fragrant, with a gentle heat, citrus aroma, nutty richness, and the refreshing sharpness of sansho. It does not simply make food spicy — it adds depth, aroma, and a more traditional Japanese flavor.
Sprinkle it on ramen, udon, soba, rice bowls, grilled chicken, soup, tofu, or even fries. Just a small amount can make everyday food taste like something from a traditional Japanese restaurant.
